Canadian Immigration Consultancy : Facts & Fallacy in the Philippines

Canadian Immigration Consultancy : Facts & Fallacy in the Philippines

By: Arnold C. Paguirigan

Site Build It!
I wrote this essay with the objective of enlightening would-be-immigrants on what is TRUE or what is FALSE on common concerns or issues raised by individuals whenever they consult with immigration consultants. Normally these are matters discussed during the initial one-on-one consultation and before the applicant sign up as client.

What I shall narrate to you are FACTS and I shall be as objective and impartial as much as possible so that this essay WILL NOT be self-serving to my interest and to avoid bias.

I will try to defer from making conclusions and I shall leave it to the reader's judgement. Is have decided to use FAQs approach so this essay would be reader-friendly and to be direct to the point in a forth right manner.

Q: From the website of Citizenship and Immigration Canada ( CIC ) it says that I do not need a reprersentative for my immigration application. Is is true or false?

A: True you don't need a consultant to represent you with the Canadian Embassy especially if you are residing in the Philippines, english proficiency and well versed in documentation.

BUT to insure that you submit a REGULATION COMPLIANT APPLICATION, it is imperative that you avail of the services of a consultant who will guide you on how to enhance your application to a form that comply with standards expected by the embassy from an
application. In short you need a consultant to provide you with the SECURITY BLANKET.

Though I strongly recommend that you should not be represented by the consultant with the embassy but rather you should represent yourself. WHY? Because if anything happens to your representative/ consultant or if their firm close shop, you will encounter difficulties in the future monitoring your application with the embassy since all official communications from the embassy are mailed to your representative consultant. So for your security it is best that the embassy communicate directly with you and vice versa. So therefore, the role of your consultant is to advise you how to communicate with the embassy and on how to prepare yourself for the interview which shall be a major concern after your application is
submitted to the embassy. After he or she has helped you package a regulation compliant application.

Q: Can I not prepare an immigration application myself and get approval?

A: Yes you can prepare it yourself but honestly I will tell you this;

"THERE WILL BE A LOT OF MISTAKES IN IT"

A number of applicants who prepared their application themselves and got a letter of refusal from the embassy have come to me for help ON HOW TO RE-APPLY. So you get a consultant to make sure you get APPROVAL. It is wise to deal with a consultant with a REFUND POLICY.

Q: How long does it take to complete an immigration application?

A: Normally it takes 2 to 4 months to complete a regulation compliant application. To expedite an application always get the advise of your consultant whenever you encounter a problem with your documents or on one of the requirements.

Q: How long does it take the Canadian Embassy in Manila to process my application?

A: You will be surprised that consultants have varying answers to this question. Some would say one year, others many would say two years and some consultants would dare say three years.

What is correct? The processing times posted by Citizenship & Immigration Canada on their website. Note: Processing times vary depending in which country the applicant is from and where the application was submitted. Though well prepared applications have shorter processing times than ill prepared applications. Especially if the application failed to present the work credentials of the applicant appropriately and accurately. Crucial in determining
eligibility to the Federal Skilled Worker Program.

Q: How do you know that you have the right consultant?

A: Going to a consultant is like going to the doctor. His job is to diagnose your credentials and personal circumstances and how best to present them in your application for immigration. To determine deficiencies and to recommend ways and means to improve your application and to insure you will succeed in getting permanent residence status in Canada. In short it is a highly personalized professional relationship between the applicant and the consultant. So
to answer the question, how do you know you have the right consultant? The answer is obvious. YOU WILL KNOW THAT YOU HAVE THE RIGHT CONSULTANT WHEN YOU DEAL DIRECTLY AND CONSULT PERSONALLY WITH THE CONSULTANT AND NOT THROUGH THEIR CLERKS OR ASSISTANTS! Who are not capable and competent enough to undertake critical analysis of your case and WORST, THEY ARE NOT CONSULTANTS TO START WITH! I can assure you most of these clerks and assistants were not trained by Canadian immigration lawyers.

Q: The immigration consultants based in the Philippines charge varying fees, some would charge U$1,500.00 or U$750.00. How much should I really pay?

A: Honestly speaking THEY ARE ALL OVER-CHARGING! Even U$750.00 is too much! Why? Because the workload of the consultant is not really that much. You will be surprised to know that in reality you do 80% of the work! And the consultant does only the remaining 20%! Again let me repeat what I said earlier; the job of the consultant is to coach,
guide and assist the applicant in preparing and documenting a regulation compliant, well organized, highly verifiable and professionally executed application for permanent residence under the Federal Skilled Worker Program or in any of the various Provincial Nomination Programs of Canada. And to prepare and assist the applicant during the interview through an applicant initiated Settlement and Job Search Guidance Program which the applicant shall undertake through the internet after the applicant has submitted his or her application to the embassy and while waiting for their notice of interview. In short to prepare the applicant for immigration – what to do when they get to Canada. Address concerns such as housing, education of the kids, employment and other matters.

DO YOU WANT A FAIR APPRAISAL OF THE ABOVE SERVICES? P30,000.00 IS ENOUGH!
