Why Canada is a Greener Pasture for Immigrants...

Why Canada is a Greener Pasture for Immigrants...

Why is it that Canada is referred to as the greener pasture for most immigrants around the world?

Allow me to start the discussion of this subject matter through a comparison of land area and population: Canada is about the size of a car while the Philippines is the size of it's hub cap. Not even the tire! Canada has 33 million people while we have 80 million and rising! Simple economics would dictate that the more area a country has the more resources are there for the population to enjoy. In fact Canadians like to think of their country as a large body of land entirely surrounded by envy.

Canada is a land of great natural beauty, from the rugged shores of Newfoundland to the mild climate and beautiful mountains of the west coast. The largest country in the world, it has six time zones. with its coast, vast forests, mountain ranges, lakes and expanses of prairies. Canada is rich in natural resources. It contains 38 national parks, more than 1000 provincial parks, and nearly 50 territorial parks.

The second reason why Canada is a greener pasture for immigrants is that Canada as a nation with it's robust economy was built by immigrants. Canada is a multicultural society with more than 17% of the population reporting a mother tongue other than english and french. Once you land in Canada as a permanent resident you will feel at home with our fellow Filipinos who are living there.

The third reason why Canada is the best place for a second home is: The United Nations has rated Canada several times the top country in the world for overall quality of life. Canadians enjoy a comfortable standard of living, good health care, social security, a high level of education, and a relatively safe and clean environment.

The Charter of Rights and Freedoms entrenched in the Canadian constitution guarantees such fundamental rights as equality, mobility, and legal rights, as well as freedom of speech, assembly and association.

The fourth reason is that Canada is a time tested destination for immigrants. During the 1990s, Canada received between 200,000 and 250,000 immigrants per year. In 2001, Canada actually exceeded its target for the first time in years with 250,346 newcomers being granted permanent resident status. This limit will be increased to 300,000 per year to offset Canada's aging population to synchronize it to 1% of the total population.

50% of all the newcomers come to Toronto, 15% to Vancouver, 11% to Montreal and the rest to the other provinces. Canada is rich, according to World Wealth Report 2001 by Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, 31% of the world's millionaires live in North America, while 4% in the Middle East, 24% in Asia Pacific, 36% in Europe and 1% in Africa. Canadians pay $138 Billion every year through their credit card for their shopping.

A 1997 survey of people in 20 countries found that the majority placed Canada in the top 10 list of countries where they would like to live. Most consider Canada a generous, peaceful and compassionate nation, while they see Canadians as honest, friendly and polite.

The fifth reason which I personally believe is the most compelling reason is; it is the best place for our children. Aside from the fact that education is free up to high school and a student gets a C$100.00 per month allowance from the government. Take note of the following facts:

Canadian Student Performance:

Canadian students among top in world survey. They ranked fourth overall in UNICEF report. Results reflect that immigrants do better in Canada than any other developed country offering immigration.

The sixth reason which I believe is most applicable to us Filipinos is; the alarming level of corruption in government. It's now highly institutionalized. For this reason foreign investors are discouraged to invest here so Filipino skilled workers are forced to seek employment abroad and be separated from their families. Compounded by over population and a ballooning foreign debt of U$56.7 BILLION!

Who wants to leave home? But how will life improve in a harsh environment like ours? Do we wait till the light of day when all that you can see are the opulent lifestyle of the rich few and the pitiful and miserable life of the vast majority. Out of frustration many are resorting to drugs and criminality. When will this change? Will it change? I doubt it even after the election results ( same dogs new collars ). Economists don't see any major improvement in the quality of life in the Philippines in the near future given the wrong fundamentals in place.

Think of yourself and your family NOW!

The seventh reason. In closing allow me to share to you an experience. Just as I was writing the draft of this e-mail, one of my clients called me up and she told me about the traumatic experience they had early last Tuesday morning. About 6 a.m. a psychotic drug addict made a force entry into their home and murdered their helper with 13 stab wounds. Next he proceeded to their room. Good thing they had the presence of mind to lock the door! Until helped arrived, then the murderer tried to flee but was caught. Then after the incident my client told her husband; "now we must rush our immigration application to Canada." By the way, this event or similar events do not happen in Canada. Will you wait for the seventh reason?
